The Cue is back

Just seen this on the OS:

Subject to administrative clearance, Terry Brown is pleased to announce that we have managed to secure the services of Luis Cumbers.

Terry said “Luis was a tremendous success last time he was here. He comes on an initial one month loan, which brings us back up to the four strikers that I feel we must have. Unfortunately, Peter Rapson has suffered a couple of injuries this season that have not allowed him to play any competitive games.

“Gillingham have kindly agreed that we can play Luis in the FA Cup. He is very comfortable on the ball and certainly has an eye for goal, unfortunately as he showed in the Ebbsfleet away fixture this year. I will endeavour to stop Lorro kicking him in training but I am sure everyone will be pleased to see Luis in a Dons shirt again.”

Well, then.

Personally, I was always a big fan of Cumbers, and like Quiche he would have been a regular AFCW squad member had he come to us two or three years later. He’s obviously not in the plans of Gillingham now, if they’re happy to see him play in the FAC, and TB has been hinting at another striker for a while. 2+2, anyone?

Intriguingly, he’s coming to us on an initial month loan. Which begs the question, why? Obviously, relying on DK and JM is never a good idea – last year’s run-in should have proven that – and I think Monty has found it a bit more difficult than we would have all hoped. Though it’s worth remembering that Brentford were keen to keep him but just couldn’t any longer.

Anyway, let’s hope that the Cue is as effective for us this month at least as he was the last time he played for us. Even if their goalkeeper was killed in the buildup:

Oh, and we’ve sold 1930 tickets for Millwall at the close of play today. Christ, that’s almost as many as we used to get at Selhurst for Coca Cola cup matches…
