SW19 is the politically unsound AFC Wimbledon online fanzine. It’s been going since 1999, when a club called Wimbledon played in somebody else’s back yard in South London. Things have obviously changed considerably since then.
Needless to say, this site is totally and utterly independent of AFC Wimbledon, and any limited or public limited companies, or supporters groups, associated with it. If you really think SW19 represents the club, then I have some magic beans to sell you.
The name of SW19’s ARMY comes from the old “Dons Song”, way back from the 86/87 season. Europop in its composition, it came up with the following lyrics:
We’re SW19’s army
And winning is our game
We’ll entertain you ever more
Like we’ve done at the old Plough Lane
SW19 is both on Twitter – @realSW19army and finally on Facebook. Don’t expect much from either though.
This site does not actively seek match reports, especially unsolicited ones. The reason for this is quite simple and a little blunt : the quality of some submissions I used to deal with were so bad that they should have gone straight in the bin.
In addition, I had to deal with a potentially nasty incident (involving people I know personally) because of a report towards the end of the 09/10 season, which quite simply I would have rather avoided. I can fight my own battles, I’m not fighting anyone else’s…
Occasionally, I may ask for a few brief submissions, but for the most part this remains a one-man operation.
SW19 uses WordPress, and smartphone compatiblility is being fine tuned. Additionally, the following people have been of great assistance with technical/hosting issues : Coops (for the hosting), Bert from WUP, Raspberry from the WUP guestbook, Ronan, DSF, Simon of Everstrong and no doubt one or two people I’ve forgotten.
